59. Edinburgh Castle
The Edinburgh Castle is a historic fortress that beautifully dominates the skyline of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland. It is one of the most beautiful sites to see in Europe and is definitely a must visit if you happen to be in Scotland. The castle stands on the plug of an extinct volcano that is said to have risen about 350 million years ago. The Castle Rock is the remains of a volcanic pipe that cut through the sedimentary rock in the surroundings before it cooled off and formed a very hard stone. The castle is also home to the Scottish regalia, known as the Honors of Scotland.
